How to form a New Chapter

Generate excitement ~ Form a New Chapter

Fabulous news! In EWMA, the time-and-effort-cost of being a Chapter Director has been greatly reduced! **audience cheers**

How easy is it to form a new EWMA Chapter (or District)? Very!

  • • Communicate with District Director (a new District would communicate with Region Director). Get current New Chapter (District) Worksheet.
  • • Fill out New Chapter (District) Worksheet (provides names and member numbers of Chapter Director and Treasurer).
  • • Enclose charter fee appropriate for your area.
  • • Mail it in.

Listen to how simple being a Chapter Director is now....

Quoting our founders at an information meeting:

"Our Director? It's real simple: we're not requiring you to have chapter gatherings as we have had them. If you want to, go for it. I'm not going to stop ya. But here's what I do know from listening to all these younger folks, and that is, they don't want to come for the meeting. So if you keep the meeting up the way it's been done -- the Saturday morning meeting which many of you have -- and then you go for a ride, realize you are losing them. Come for breakfast and go for a ride. Don't do the meeting part. If you have a social during the week (a Friday-night dinner or Wednesday-night dinner), make that your chapter gathering. Because here's all the Chapter Director has to do:

'How's everybody doing? By the way, don't forget we have the ride this Saturday. Anybody else new? We like to celebrate birthdays because we have a couple here tonight. Have a good time. Enjoy your dinner.'

"That's it, folks. When I say "simpler", that's what I mean. There's not a newsletter. You're in charge of communication. You're gonna need somebody that's going to communicate regularly with your people. So that means maybe an email blast, maybe phone calls, you decide what it is. There doesn't need to be a newsletter. Sorry for all the newsletter editors, I just put you out of business, I know. Go ride. Go ride and have fun.

"But that's the reason, because we need to communicate. How many Chapter Directors or District Directors are in the room that have had to write articles?

Hands go up.

"Maybe Educators that have had to write articles. You loved writing those articles, didn't you?

Person in audience answers, 'No.'; others laugh.

"Because doesn't every article from the Chapter Director or District Director or even when somebody was present of GW[RRA], read something like, 'In the past month we have done the following things.... Isn't this fun.' (Referring to the younger rider) they don't care. And they don't read it. So unfortunately, we had a safety message that was getting missed because first we start with the Chapter Director. And nobody wants to read that. So did they ever get to the second page?

Audience answers, 'No.'

"Okay. I always knew you guys read every word I ever wrote.

Audience laughs.

"That's what I told myself, and that's why I sent the magazines to my mother.

"The truth is that we just need to be simple. We need to be communicating. We need to make sure that we are talking to the people. That's the most important piece."
